We stopped in at Sawgrass Recreation Park today for an airboat ride before we headed across Alligator Alley from Miami to Fort Myers. We had a great time and got to learn about local wildlife.
The cost for an airboat ride and animal exhibits at Sawgrass Recreation Park is about $21 per person and military is free! What a great perk for those who have served our country!
Once you get down to the boat dock, you get a picture taken of you and your party. It was just the 2 of us in our picture. Then, once everyone is on board, the tour guide goes over the basic rules. Most important of all….keep your hands in the boat AT ALL TIMES! Gators are hungry and will snatch you fast.
We did a 30 minute tour and got to see a good amount of the Florida Everglades. We even got a good view of an 8.5 foot female alligator. She kept her eye on the boat the whole time looking for a snack.
Once back at the boat dock, we paid for our picture and headed into the exhibition area. There you get to see the local wildlife up close and even feed the fishes and turtles. They do have shows going on as well if you’d like to watch those.
The gift shop provided lots of items to purchase and even offers ice cream to cool off on a hot day.
Well worth the time to stop at Sawgrass Recreation Park and enjoy a little taste of the Florida Everglades!
